Services Provided
Psychotherapy with individuals age 12 and older experiencing various adjustment problems in areas such as stress, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, decision making, broken or unfulfilling relationships, dissatisfaction with present lifestyle or conditions, family problems, sexuality issues, emotional distress, or recent life crises.
Adolescents who are experiencing daily living problems in such areas as family, peers, school, police contact, drug and/or alcohol abuse, motivation, general self-image.
Parents who are experiencing difficulty with adolescents or older children and who complain that they sometimes feel powerless, disrespected, overwhelmed, angry, confused, blackmailed by tantrums and threats such as running away, scared about possible drug abuse or pregnancy, or just generally unable to “make contact” with their children.
Couples in distress, seen either separately or together, due to such issues
as chronic relationship problems leading to either daily arguing and fighting
or, conversely, to avoidance of each other, failure to develop emotional
closeness desired; loss of previous closeness; living together unhappily
enough to think regularly about separation; separated and wondering if
and how to get back together; general lack of fulfillment in the relationship.
Families in distress due to any of the many stress, developmental or relationship problems facing them in today’s complicated world.
Adult children and their families around issues of incomplete or faulty separation from family of origin, problems functioning in the job or in independent living, continuing family relationship problems, ongoing patterns of dysfunction.
Persons recovering from drug or alcohol problems who may now be abstinent, but are now unhappy, or confused about how to “live sober”.
Current drug or alcohol abusers who are (1) already motivated for change but need help with how to translate desire into actual behavior change or, (2) not very motivated and in need of counseling about such decisions as entering residential or more structured outpatient treatment.
Consultation with schools, residential and outpatient treatment facilities or other human service settings where staff have identified specific problem areas or where suggestions for up-grading, redesigning, or troubleshooting with the treatment process are needed.
Videotaping of sessions is offered when it would be helpful in working
with any of the above situations.
