About Dr. Fairlie
Dr. Fairlie began working in the therapy field in 1968 in Philadelphia,
doing individual and group therapy with addicts and alcoholics in the Criminal
Justice system.
As a result of these early experiences in therapy, he later became a Therapist and then Unit Director in a large Residential Treatment facility, providing Individual, Group, and Family Therapy.
This led to the position of Director of Treatment in an Adolescent Treatment program, which offered Residential, Outpatient, Prison, and Halfway House Services.
Then in 1980, Dr. Fairlie secured his Pennsylvania Psychologist License and began his Private Practice, which he has maintained to the present. Along the way, he completed his Ph.D. in Psychology, became a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP), obtained his APA certificate of Proficiency in the treatment of Alcohol and other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders, and completed the three year Clinical Training Program in Family and Marital Therapy at the Family Institute of Philadelphia.
Outside of his Private Practice, Dr. Fairlie stays quite active in Professional
and Community organizations. Professionally, he benefits from regular meetings
and training with colleagues in the American Psychological Association,
Pennsylvania Psychological Association,
American Group Psychotherapy Association,
and Family Institute of Philadelphia. In his community, he serves on the
Board of the Suburban Chamber of Commerce, where he chairs the annual College
Scholarship Awards Program. Since 1980, Dr. Fairlie has been very active
in his local Rotary Club, serving as President and continuing as a Senior
advisor to the Board of Directors.
Dr. Fairlie also enjoys an active personal life. He and his wife of 40
years spend lots of time with their son and daughter, and four grandchildren,
celebrating holidays and birthdays as a family. Dr. and Mrs. Fairlie enjoy
hiking, fishing, and travel, as well as bird and general wildlife watching
close to home and in their travels. At home, he enjoys the landscaping
activities that come with a large yard full of mature shrubs and trees.
Throughout the year the family finds time to relax in Pennsylvania’s
Pocono Mountains and at the Jersey Shore.
